Lubrication for Raptor owners.
I just finished waxing, lubing, and cleaning the Raptor. This was my once a year complete go around on the trailer. I also added heat to the garage so my dogs don't freeze. I lubed the bearings using the EZ-Lube zurk fittings, that went well just took my time pumping in the greese. My question might be a dumb one, but do the Raptors have other Zurk fittings under the trailer for leaf springs or other suspension parts? I looked but did not see any other zurk locations on the trailer.
RE: FW1 wax/cleaner
I would never think about waxing a finish of any kind without washing to get red of sand ,grit,oil.ect.Clear coat is very thin and only takes a small scarch to start it messing up.I always try a out of site place with a new product, also beware of decals. GOOD LUCK
RE: Santa gave me an Orbital Buffer - scared to use it ...
i use an 11 inch orbital buffer to place the cleaner-wax on the fiberglas, then change pads and buff it off. because it is an orbital buffer there is very little danger of damanging the paint or fiberglas. gel-gloss from camping world has a cleaner-wax that will remove oxidation and leave a thin coat of wax. if you have no oxidation you can go right to the waxing. terry cloth pads work to apply and remove the wax.
RE: WAX
Is the unit polished aluminum or painted? If it's painted it doesn't matter much what the paint is on, you're not waxing/polishing it, you need something just the for paint.
keeping front cap clean
We all share road tar and bug problems on the front of our rigs. Somewhere, I read of waxing the front cap and then applying a coat of Pam cooking spray over it. Supposedly, the bugs, etc. come off much easier.
I've tried that, but didn't find it helpful. I wonder if Armour All would work better? Have you found an easy solution that really works?
RE: Just love that snow
Just finished cleaning the snow off the motorhome. It snowed three times this week and expect more on Friday. The temp (inside) the motorhome is -2. The wind chill temp is supposed to be -30 tonight and tomorrow. I'm turning on the furnace tomorrow to start loading. I don't want to touch any plastic parts till it warms up cause they might break. I checked my hoses and discovered I forgot to remove the water filter and it literally exploded when it froze. Merry Christmas to ALL, see you in Texas.:B
Last year when I was stuck up north waiting for the house to sell we had several ice and snow storms and below o temps.
I deligently kept brushing all the snow off the MH..........do be careful about this I wasn't...... when I got down south earlier this year and washed and started to give the MH a good waxing I found out that in the cold temps when you brush the snow off over the decals it breaks all the edges. :R:R
RE: I Have Issues
I can see it now on my death bed ... sure wished I would have waxed the coach instead of going bike riding, fishing , etc with the Grandkids!
Just finished three days of waxing while the Grandkids were at school. Took them out West this summer and they helped care for the coach in between hiking, fishing, riding, etc.
Great pictures of your grandkids ... that is something they will remember when we are long gone! My fisher Grandkids
I knocked the ice off the coach yesterday ... does that count? When we get to Florida, too many things to do! I wonder if it will be in my obituary ... "He died with a dirty coach!"

RE: RV yearly maintenance
We were told that we needed to reseal (remove the caulking and replace with new) around the roof, windows, etc every 6 months. They were going to charge $1000. We decided to not have it done. Is is important to reseal the roof?
Last spring, Camping World was advertising a roof cleaning and apply UV protectent for $299, normally $349. While I was down at Port Aransas, TX, a couple of guys were detailing and waxing a Class A. I asked them what they would change to clean and UV protect my TT. They said $1 per foot to clean and $1 to protect. My TT was 26 ft. I told them to go ahead for $52. I also asked them to look at the Dicor caulking while the did the work.
When they finished, I gave them $60 and felt I had gotten a real bargin. They told me that there was some checking in the Dicor and if I would get a tube of Dicor they would be back the next day and do the caulking.
They returned the next day and caulked the trailer. I asked how much and they said nothing, zero, nadda. I tried to give them a tip, they refused and said I'd given them enough the previous day.
In short, look around and if it looks like your dealer is gouging you there are people that will do a good job at a reasonable price. This is often true of some of the mobile techs.
RE: Downside Of Hauling/Camping With A 40' 5'er ? Discuss
As someone who is full-timing in a 39ft 5er, most of the previous posters have hit the key points...
Less spontaneity...more planning...limits on what campground sites are available...more time spent waxing, cleaning...the larger size makes it more susceptible to wind and weather effects while towing...and of course more weight reduces your fuel mileage...but for using it what you are describing seems to be perfect.
I own ten acres up in Michigan too--Gaylord, where are you from?
RE: Friends from the "OOP'S" thread.
Yeah, I'm going to start back on my bowflex machine and I also have a treadmill that is great for "hanging things on", I personally, prefer a stepper or just walking/jogging, hopefully, I'll be able to do all the above enough to "make a difference". Got to get in some kind of shape just to keep up with the grandkids...It's a pretty good workout washing and waxing my 5er, it comes in at a little over 38' 6"
that'll pretty much get you tired in a day. With all the weed eating and hand mowing I do on the side of some of my "hills", that also is a workout. I wear baseball cleats to help me stand on the side of a couple of those hills...I gotta find someone else to do some of this weed wacking, I'm getting to old to keep falling down some of these hills, yeah, only 58, but at times, I'm feeling it, though "baby-boomers" don't think they're getting old, hey, most of the time, I feel like I'm in my 30's., ( my body just knows better:B Gotta go, appears I need to order some material for the line...later.
Oh, you are right about very early morning commercials, some of them are a real riot.
RE: Can filon be painted?
You can paint Filon, but you want to make sure that whoever does the work is reputable. Otherwise, if you haven't done so already, try waxing the older Filon, as that may bring the color back somewhat.
If I remember correctly Lance used a Filon color called "New White" on your camper. Did the repair center use the same color or was it "Polar White." "New White" has a more antique look to it, and "Polar White" is much more of a true stark white.
Check your local marine repair centers, as they usually either do paint fiberglass or they have a good sub-contractor that they use.
RE: I Have Issues
I am not sure if I need medication or a visit to a shrink or both. But my OCD has gotten the best of me lately and I have been on a Holy Terror with my coach.......again. We have a 2,000 mile trip coming up at the end of the week so I normally get overly busy with the bus.
I removed all the floor vents and blew them out. I removed all the wooden vent panels and vacuumed out the furnace areas and under the fridge. I detailed all the rims ( I hate polishing them
Alcoa's )treated the tires with 303 and gave the entire coach a wipe down with McGuires detail spray. I also shampooed the carpets and am detailing the inside ( love that Holloways furniture wax ).
I think this is where I started wondering about myself. I also cleaned the generator and put a coat of wax on it.
Next up is a complete cleaning of the basement and all the compartments, air conditioning/heat pump coils, inspection of the roof and a quick coat of wax on the leading edge of the front cap.
I am so anal with this coach and my cars / motorcycles that I am constantly cleaning something, waxing or polishing chrome. Maybe its pride in ownership or maybe I do need some med's. :) Either way, this coach shines and looks nice.
Just wondering, do others meticulously look after their coaches the same way ?
Chris
P.S. The apple didn't fall to far from the tree as my son is the same way with his Endeavor and all his cars. Maybe worse then his old man. :)
If you'd post your address I can make it down before you leave and let you pursue your obsession. My coach needs your tender touch.
:B

It's too bad you don't live next to me, I have some problems, physically, that doesn't allow me to do as much to the rig as I would like. In fact I bought the Coating that supposedly allows me to just wash it and it is supposed to replace the wax.
RE: I Have Issues
This appears to be a "man thing".....I like things clean too, but waxing the generator???? Waxing your mower????
I'll bet these same guys who are polishing their rigs to a brilliant, blinding shine miss the hamper with their clothes and leave a mess on the bathroom counters in their stick homes!!
RE: I Have Issues
Chris, I know exactly what you mean. My wife is constantly telling me that it looks great, that is good enough, it is going to get dirty driving down the road anyway, etc. I like things a certain way and can't seem to relax if there is something not the way I want it. Speaking of waxing your generator, when we purchased our coach the generator had some scratches and chips in the Onan green paint so after repainting the front of the coach from rock chips I decided to pull the covers off of the generator and match the paint (not easy to match by the way) and sanded the covers down with a DA sander, primed a few deeper scratches and then repainted and clearcoated the covers. After detailing the interior of the generator cover and reassembling I ordered new decals and installed them. It looks like it just came off of the shelf. Also after repairing a cracked suspension bracket this fall I went and sprayed and brushed the entire undercarriage with undercoating and give it a fresh painted look. I am the same way with our coach, daily driven vehicles, toys and house as you are. If it is a disease I wish some of my neighbors would catch it. Mike.
